Reach the ones who need us?
Attended a great conference this week on adapting adult education to better serve the needs of potential students and by encountering them at the point of their need, prepare them to work at the skilled jobs we need filled throughout our region. Currently in the Permian Basin region in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas, there are over 8000 skilled jobs not filled. To prepare for these jobs, potential workers must first have their high school diploma or GED to pursue the advanced training needed for these jobs. Many of these potential students may not even consider getting their GED, improving their reading or learning English as reachable. They may not be aware of the services of the ALC. Sooo, I ask you to help me develop techniques to reach out in effective ways to these potential students.
I love our program. I love working with the students we do have, but how many in Artesia need to work with a tutor and gain these skills? [Happy to train tutors and provide materials!]
Research indicates the group most in need of services is Hispanic males between 18 -30. How can we make this group aware of their need?
