New Beginning/Fresh Start?

Whether you are joining us as a student or a tutor, whether you've been here before or this is your very first time, now is the time to make a new beginning.

Just what do I mean by a new beginning? Mostly it's a change in attitude toward what you are starting. Please not, "Well, I guess I'll give it another try...", instead, organize your new approach. Look forward not to just starting, but FINISHING your goal.

  • List the reasons you want to do what you are beginning. Working to get your GED? What will you be able to do with it that you can't do now? Will it make a positive difference in my life?

  • Design your learning plan. I can work on my independent work every evening between 4 - 6. I will focus on Social Studies first...

  • Set time goals with your tutor or administrator. I will complete this section in Science by the end of September.

  • Plan rewards for goals accomplished. Because I raised my English levels by 50 points, I can eat out.

  • Make a plan for when you get away from your goal due to work or holidays or whatever. What will I do to resume my activities?

The important aspect of planning is making your program more important in your mind. It changes from an unformed, nebulous dream to a goal with objectives that you are planning to reach. Didn't your goal just get a little closer?
